Gas Explosion in Pikesville Injuries Three BGE Utility Workers
A natural gas explosion shook through Stevenson Road in Pikesville this past Friday. The blast, which launched flames 50 feet in the air and torched vehicles and power lines, happened as a Baltimore Gas & Electric (BGE) crew repaired a gas main line nearby. Witnesses reported that the fire raged for hours until first responders finally brought it under control. Three BGE workers were injured in the accident, one of them critically.

The incident was mere miles from Warnken, LLC’s office near Hooks Lane and Reisterstown Road. More than just proximity, the fire hit close to home because it was BGE workers who were hurt. Warnken, LLC handles serious workers’ compensation and burn cases and knows what these can do to an injured worker’s life.
Shockingly, there have been several similar incidents throughout the Baltimore area in recent years. An August 2020 natural gas explosion in a northwest Baltimore neighborhood resulted in fatalities. And in August 2019, a natural gas leak ignited a fire in a Colombia shopping center. While there were no injuries, dozens of businesses were destroyed.
BGE announced an extensive repair plan after being fined nearly half a million dollars for safety violations in 2019. It deserves to be held accountable for the ongoing issues and negligence.
